Licensing FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions about licensing opportunities with PRA Training Inc.

Why can't I create a similar course and then teach it myself?

You can. But when would you like to deliver it? PRA Training Inc. has spent two years of market research, plus almost two years of delivery, and significant time and effort to align our program with regulators to ensure that our content is in line with our profession’s standards. Our program was developed by a team of seasoned successful REALTORS® and experienced assistants, and has been reviewed by industry experts including university professors and professional editors so that it meets the highest standards and our students receive the best possible training.

My territory is so small compared to some of the larger areas. How can I benefit?

We have created pro-rated fees in accordance with the number of members in a given territory. Even if it’s one assistant in a remote location, we want to be able to offer the same opportunity that we offer to aspiring assistants in urban centers.

Why is PRA Professional Real Estate Assistant Training different? REALTORS® have always trained their assistants themselves.

You’re correct. REALTORS® have always done their own training – but most REALTORS® are not able to fully train assistants in all aspects of real estate, including the range of applicable legislation and regulation, best practices and new technology. REALTORS® work with clients who are buying and selling what is potentially their largest asset and clients expect and demand solid service – and should there be a problem in a transaction, REALTORS® may find themselves in court. REALTORS® need to be supported by an assistant who understands their business. As an example, what could happen if an assistant answered your phone and said “Our standard commission is…”? REALTORS® need properly trained assistants who are committed to their work and see themselves as career professionals.

What are the benefits to me?

PRA Professional Real Estate Assistant Training is in demand right across North America. PRA Training Inc. is not just looking for candidates who can write a cheque to license our programs and start teaching. We are looking for committed professionals who want to pass on their knowledge and experience to better the real estate profession, who have a love of teaching, and who recognize an opportunity and are willing to commit to grow as a national team.

What if my territory is taken and I want to train in another?

A candidate must be a real estate board member of their specific territory. Because different real estate boards and real estate associations may operate slightly differently, we expect our students to be taught the legislation, regulations, rules, practices and forms by a member specific to that geographic area.

Is the program turnkey?

Every real estate association and real estate board may operate differently. In many cases this is the result of area-specific regulations and rules. For example, one real estate board may require forms to be completed slightly different than other real estate boards, or they may have specific expectations of how forms are submitted. Once the license has been agreed upon for a specific territory, the licensee and PRA Training Inc. will work together to customize content for that specific territory.

Who markets my business?

You do. PRA Training Inc. will continue to market nationally to increase brand recognition, and we will provide sample marketing plans and tools, but it is your responsibility to market to potential students in your territory. In the manual you receive at start-up, we offer suggestions and guidelines, and are always here to support your growth.
