How long have you been a real estate assistant? Two years.
What made you interested in a career in real estate? I worked for Dexter for over 25 years as the office administrator. After I retired from that I became an assistant to one of the REALTORS®.
What is your favourite part of your career? Still enjoy all the aspects of organizing the paperwork to create a calm atmosphere out of a chaotic situation. Being able to be part of an exciting and growing real estate business.
What have you found most satisfying about your position? I am able to be of great help to the salesperson and organize her routine so she doesn't stress as much. Make the office run smoother and improve the business.
What is the most valuable thing you’ve learned so far? Make sure the daily routine is clear and no memos or phone calls are missed. Everything has a place and is easy to find. Appointments are planned and prepared for.
What is your favourite restaurant? I have two favourites - Villa de Lupe and La Gavroche.
What is your favourite book? Five Pillars of Relationships by Peter Sammarco
Name someone you admire and why. Bill Gates. For turning a small nerdy business into a multi-million organization and being able to have the philanthropic foresight to plan on leaving most of that fortune to charity.
Tell us about a cause you believe in and why. The Salvation Army, because the largest majority of the donations actually go to the people that need them, and the administrators take the smallest amount of any non profit organization.
What do you think makes a great assistant? To be as calm and organized as is possible and still get the work done. To plan ahead for your employer so that business increases in the months ahead.
Do you have any advice or words of wisdom for current or new PRAs? If the real estate business is something you have always been interested in, then you will not be sorry you joined a team. To work at something you really enjoy does not feel like work. You will be able to give it your all without feeling overworked. The more you put into it, the more you get out of it.
