I went to a conference this week and the speaker was amazing, inspirational and even entertaining. This morning I applied the lessons learned and I had such a productive day. How long will this last? As long as I keep going back for more.

As an entrepreneur do you find that we can become consumed in details, systems and “stuff”?

By remaining active in lifelong learning a breath of new life gets blown into our business. Sometimes it is soft and subtle and then every once in a while we take a course that fires us up and makes us want to hit the ball out of the park.

Besides, our clients pay for our expertise and our product knowledge, don’t we owe it to them to be on top of our game?

What courses, seminars, or conferences are coming up for you? What will you participate in this month as a sound investment in yourself and your business?

When considering career options as a professionally trained assistant, many people look to the dental, medical and legal fields; real estate is not always top of mind. For many people, this is because formal training as a Professional Real Estate Assistant has never been offered in Canada, until now.

Before PRA Training Inc. was founded, real estate assistants relied on their busy employers to train them in everything from marketing, contract scribing, day to day systems and legal and ethical guidelines. Often in the fast-paced world of real estate, employers did not have the time to properly train their assistants, limiting the value of the new hire's role and job satisfaction.

With PRA™ Foundations Training, the candidate confidently enters the dynamic and in-demand world of real estate as a Professional Real Estate Assistant after only 2 weekends (6 days) of class time. Upon completion of the course, you will have the knowledge, expertise and tools to work for a wide-range of real estate professionals including property developers, brokerages and REALTORS® as a highly valued unlicensed Professional Real Estate Assistant.

As a Professional Real Estate Assistant, you will enjoy:

  • Flexibility: work at your own schedule, full or part-time.
  • Personal Focus: concentrate on the areas of real estate you enjoy best; be it marketing, client services, database management and more.
  • Foundational Knowledge: you’ll gain a better understanding of the industry and opportunities that exist without going through the full licensing process and expense.
  • Affordable Tuition: which includes application, all text book, reference tools and materials; you will take the materials with you for future easy reference

There's no question that real estate as a career continues to be in high demand, including the increasing need for trained Professional Real Estate Assistants.

If you’re a top producer or your goal is to become one, you may want all the support you can get. Hiring an assistant is one way to make sure you’re able to spend your valuable time doing what you do best, and delegating the rest.

To make sure your current or potential assistant is an asset and not an expense, training is vital. But busy REALTORS® trying to increase their productivity and profits rarely have time to train an assistant. In fact, the real problem is figuring out how to train an assistant or hire a qualified assistant when you’re busy.

We have your solution. The
PRA™ Professional Real Estate Assistant certificate program has been created to train and support unlicensed assistants and administrative support personnel.

The two weekend program, taught by REALTOR® Nina Campbell, will be offering fall classes starting again in September. Course content will include:

  • an introduction to organized real estate, legislation and rules, including the roles and responsibilities of unlicensed assistants and licensees;
  • an introduction to forms, day-to-day systems and operations typically found in a real estate brokerage;
  • an introduction to marketing, including advertising rules and limitations;
  • the listing process and sales  process; and
  • the completion of the real estate cycle.

Top producing REALTORS® spend most of their time generating revenue – networking, following leads, making presentations, brining in clients and closing transactions.

They hand over the paperwork, the filing, the pounding in signs, the writing of advertisements, and the technology updates, to their assistants who have come to the profession with a variety of educational backgrounds and skill sets.

Now you can increase the standard of training for your professional real estate assistant.

My name is Nina Campbell and I have been a REALTOR® for the past 16 years. I have seen our profession change from MLS® Catalogues to Social Media and from the paper weight cell phone to smart phones. When our admin staff is involved and thriving, they approach their work with more satisfaction and want stay longer.

PRA Training founder Nina Campbell, REALTOR® in Vancouver BC for 16 years created this company. "I was frustrated to see that the legal society is depended on trained personnel, as is the medical and dental society. We as a Real Estate Profession are the only Professional industry that does not have or require trained support staff. As well, there are no real estate specific means for us to advertise for skilled support or for candidates to promote themselves to us."…… And so PRA Training was born.

After two years of refining the training material and making sure that the content was in alignment with our industry requirements, our first course launched at SFU downtown campus October 16, 2009.

The outcome was better than we could have ever hoped for. REALTORS® as far as Ontario were contacting us to bring our course to them. Students as far as Saskatchewan came out to be part of our launch.

Who is enrolling in the training?

  • A variety of keeners!
  • Assistants sent by REALTORS® who don’t have the time or patience to train and who understand that their time is more profitable being with buyers and sellers.
  • Assistants frustrated in their job from the lack of knowledge and training received and want to take their own business to another level.
  • Some come to us because they have always had a love for Real Estate and before plunging to become licensed, are stepping into it gradually.
  • Others yet, see the opportunity to become an entrepreneur, virtual assistant and consultant.
  • The age group has been 20 to 56 and we are proud to say we have trained both male and female.

PRA Training offers Foundational (beginners) and advanced programs, a unique job board specifically for the real estate industry, and job placement assistance for our grads to our real estate professionals.

We have created a growing community where our assistants have the opportunity to grow, network, support and be supported.

When the real estate market suddenly gets busy - and sooner or later it always does - real estate professionals will need trained assistants. And usually they're hard to find, not just because everyone is hiring, but because, until now, training programs haven't existed.

I found this out the hard way and it really hit home a few years ago when my real estate broker suddenly needed help. I offered my personal assistant, Jesseca for a few days. Soon my broker had "borrowed" her full time. Who wouldn't? Jesseca is an expert in customer service, knows forms inside and out and understands rules and regulations. In a flash she’d organized the office and every licensee knew she was pure gold. I had to promise her a raise and increased benefits to get her back.

Jesseca came to work for me fresh from high school. I wanted to send her to a training program, but we couldn’t find one. Luckily she was a go-getter, arriving early, staying late, taking work home and reading. In just a few months she was up to speed and I learned how a skilled assistant could help me increase my productivity and success.

Six years later, with colleagues still trying to entice Jesseca to come work with them, we decided to develop our own training program for professional real estate assistants.

PRA™ (Professional Real Estate Assistant) is set to run for the first time in September 2009. It’s ready and it’s been reviewed, scrutinized and praised by real estate industry professionals and university instructors.

Whether a PRA™ is new to the profession or they’ve been working for years, PRA Training will help add skills right away. In our six-day program, we offer training on systems, forms and files, real estate marketing, the listing process; working with buyers; the completion and possession procedure and legislation and regulation. We also offer networking opportunities and the ability for employers to post positions.

We’ll show PRA grads how to start their own PRA services business and become entrepreneurs. They'll learn the benefits of being self-employed - working as much as they like part-time or by the project with one, two, four or more real estate professional - including appraisers, developers and REALTORS®, as clients.

The benefits to employers include flexibility and lower costs. You can hire a PRA™ by the project, by the hour, part or full-time. Everyone benefits. After 16 years as a REALTOR® I know the value of having an assistant there when you need one.

I’m interested in hearing what you think. Would you enrol in this program? If you’re a real estate professional, would you enrol your assistant?

I would love to hear from you! I’d appreciate if you’d send me your comments, ideas and wish list for course content. Contact me at Nina@PRAtraining.com
